Criminal Law: Hawaiʻi

The State of Hawaiʻi's Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division provides a primary source of criminological data and other objective information on the nature and extent of crime in Hawaiʻi.

The Hawaiʻi Criminal Justice Data Center maintains a central registry of covered offenders, sex offenders, offenders against minors, repeat covered offender, sexually violent predators, or any other sexual offender designation for the State of Hawaiʻi.

The Hawaiʻi Criminal Justice Data Center (HCJDC) is an agency of the Department of the Attorney General in the State of Hawaiʻi and is responsible for the statewide criminal history record information system (CJIS-Hawaiʻi), the statewide Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), the statewide SexOffender and Other Covered Offender Registry, and the Adult Criminal Conviction Information Web Site (eCrim).

Jails – The department oversees the following four jails: Hawaii Community Correctional Center, Kauai Community Correctional Center, Maui Community Correctional Center, and Oahu Community Correctional Center.
Prisons – The department oversees the following four prisons: Halawa Correctional Facility, Waiawa Correctional Facility, Kulani Correctional Facility and the Women’s Community Correctional Center.
One facility houses Hawaiʻi inmates on the mainland: Saguaro Correctional Center

The Criminal Justice Division of the Attorney General performs all prosecutorial functions on behalf of the state such as welfare fraud, tax fraud, unemployment fraud, unauthorized practice of law, and public corruption. The Missing Child Center-Hawaiʻi is part of this division and is Hawaii's only clearinghouse that assists in the recovery of missing or abducted children. This division also administers the State's asset forfeiture program.
