The University of Hawaii School of Law Library cordially invites you to attend the thirteenth installment of the Law Library Talk Story Series with Professor Jonathan Goldberg-Hiller on his recent publication, "Law by Night."  Your RSVP  by October 1st would be greatly appreciated.

Date and Time: October 3rd (Thurs), 2024 @12:00 noon - 1 p.m. (HST)
Venue: University of Hawaii School of Law Library Lobby
Speakers:  Jonathan Goldberg-Hiller, Professor and Department Chair of Political Science at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa

* Light refreshments will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.

Synopsis: What can it mean to bring night into legal theory?  This talk will sketch an answer to this question, explaining how legality is simultaneously present and absent from nocturnal times and spaces, as well as how night and darkness interrupt the metaphorical structure of the law. Night’s absent presence will be explored through issues such as the right to sleep, the history of how night has shaped racial and gender hierarchies, and the potentialities of a dark law for a more egalitarian social life.

Please join us for an indulging talk story!
