Searching on Heinonline

  • Boolean (AND, OR, NOT) - must be in ALLCAPS.
  • Proximity searching uses a tilde ~ n (where n is the number of words between terms) after the words. E.g. Barack Obama ~3
  • Uses “exact phrase” for exact phrases
  • Root Expander is * – liab* finds liable, liability
  • ? Substitutes for one letter – mailm?n finds mailman, mailmen
  • Date range searching is available from the Advanced Search menu.

U.S. Congressional Documents Database

Includes:

  • Annals of Congress (1789-1824) predecessor to the Congressional Record
  • Register of Debates (1824-1837)  predecessor to the Congressional Record
  • Congressional Globe (1833-1873) predecessor to the Congressional Record
  • Congressional Record (1873-Present)

U.S. Federal Legislative History Library

This database on Heinonline includes comprehensive federal legislative histories published by the U.S. GPO and private publishers. It also includes a unique finding aid based on Nancy Johnson's award-winning work, Sources of Compiled Legislative Histories.

Researchers should begin their U.S. federal legislative history research with this finding aid, which often includes references to law review articles on-point to a particular legislative history. 

U.S. Presidential Library

This library includes such titles as Messages and Papers of the Presidents, Public Papers of the Presidents, CFR Title 3 (Presidents), Daily and Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents, and other documents related to U.S. Presidents. 

U.S. Statutes at Large

Includes complete coverage of the Statutes at Large beginning with volume 1, 1789-1799. These are the session laws of the U.S. Congress.

U.S. Code Database

The official United States Code is published every six years beginning in 1925-26. It is not annotated.

This collection includes complete coverage of the United States Code dating back to inception in 1925-1926. Also includes the Early Federal Laws Collection, which represents the most complete collection of federal statute compilations prior to the US Code.
