The Basics

Components of the Iowa Bar Exam (UBE):

The Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) 50%

The Mulitistate Essay Examination (MEE) 30%

The Multistate Performance Test (MPT) 20%

Reciprocity:

Iowa is a UBE jurisdiction and excepts UBE scores up to 2 years old or up to 5 years old if the applicant has been engaged in the practice of law for at least two of three years immediately preceding the transfer application filing date. In addition, Iowa considers all U.S. states and the District of Columbia reciprocal and an attorney may be admitted on motion if, among other things, the attorney has practiced law for at least 5 of the 7 years immediately preceding the filing of their application.
