The Basics

Components of the Kentucky Bar Exam:

Multiple Choice Component

The Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) - Minimum Passing Score 135

Essay Component

1. The Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) (Combined with State Specific Essays)

2. 6 State Specific Essays 30% (Combined with MEE questions)

3. The Multistate Performance Test (MPT)

Note: Must average at least 75% on the essay portion of the exam. 

Reciprocity:

Kentucky considers the following U.S. jurisdictions reciprocal and an attorney may be admitted on motion if, among other things, the attorney has been engaged in the active practice of law for at least five of the seven years next preceding the filing of their application for admission to the Kentucky bar: 

Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.
