The Basics

Components of the New Jersey Bar Exam (UBE):

The Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) 50%

The Mulitistate Essay Examination (MEE) 30%

The Multistate Performance Test (MPT) 20%

Reciprocity:

New Jersey is a UBE jurisdiction and excepts UBE scores up to 3 years old. In addition, New Jersey considers the following jurisdictions reciprocal, and an attorney may be admitted on motion if, among other things, the attorney has lawfully practiced law for five of the last seven years: 

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virgin Islands, Utah, Vermont.
