The Basics

Components of the Texas Bar Exam (UBE Starting February 2021):

The Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) 50%

The Mulitistate Essay Examination (MEE) 30%

The Multistate Performance Test (MPT) 20%

Reciprocity:

Texas is a UBE jurisdiction and excepts UBE scores up to 2 years old or up to 5 years old if the applicant has been actively and substantially engaged in the practice as their principal occupation for at least two of the three years immediately preceding the date the applicant submits their transfer application. In addition, Texas allows attorneys who have been actively and substantially engaged in the lawful practice of law for at least five of the 7 years immediately preceding their application to be admitted to the Texas bar without examination.
