The Basics

Components of the Alabama Bar Exam (UBE):

The Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) 50%

The Mulitistate Essay Examination (MEE) 30%

The Multistate Performance Test (MPT) 20%

Reciprocity:

Alabama is a UBE jurisdiction and excepts UBE scores up to 25 months old. In addition, Alabama considers the following jurisdictions reciprocal and an attorney may be admitted on motion from one of these jurisdictions if, among other things, the attorney has been engaged in the active practice of law for five of the six years immediately preceding the date upon which their application is filed:

Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming.
